Some Nigerian artistes have come under the harmer of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission as the broadcast regulator places their songs on the Not to be broadcast, NTBB, list.
The commission has directed electronic media houses not to broadcast the songs for reasons ranging from vulgar lyrics to obscene videos. Other reasons include videos depicting violence, indecent exposure and promotion of an ostentatious lifestyle.
Olamide, Reminiscence, Davido, Iyanya, Phyno, Wizkid and Lil Kesh are some of the artistes affected by the ban.
Such sanction is not new in the country’s broadcast industry as the commission from time to time enforces its powers to regulate the sector by placing bans on specific songs or music video.
But how far-reaching will this be in an era where the channels on cable networks are not regulated? Most of those songs and music video banned by NBC in the past are still served to the public through massive air play on those channels.
