As part of the World Environment Day celebration, Engaging the Grassroots Initiative on Environment and Sustainability (EGIES), partnered with the Public Affairs Section, of the US Consulate General, Lagos in holding an event. 

Participants which gathered for the awareness which took place at the Public Affairs hall at the Consulate, were drawn from different secondary schools in Lagos state.

The focus was on creating awareness about the environment and open up discussion on ways of taking care and reducing the negative environmental footprints as individuals and as institutions.

Issue of ecological literacy (Knowledge of Our ecosystem and the organizations within it that makes it self-sustaining and its adaptation to creating sustainable communities) was discussed by participants.  

Climate Change reality and ways of mitigating it and then a practical session on recycle art;(Converting household wastes to other useful items) were also treated at the event.

Take away from there is that those who attended are better inspired and motivated to take responsibility for their environment; to protect and to nuture.
