
Nigeria has recorded 1270 new cases of the novel Coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 102,601.
Announcing the new figures in a late night tweet on Tuesday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed that the country unfortunately recorded twelve(12) new COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours under review.
The Health Agency said the new cases were reported from 22 states including the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
According to the NCDC, of the new cases, 453 were recorded in Lagos, 234 in FCT, 103 in Oyo, 86 in Plateau and 71 in Rivers state.
Other states with new cases include, Enugu-51 Nasarawa-41 Delta-39 Edo-39 Osun-33 Niger-31 Sokoto-23 Ondo-16 Taraba-13 Ebonyi-12 Kano-10 Abia-9 Bayelsa-8 Bauchi-7 Imo-5 Katsina-3 Gombe-1.
NCDC said till date, 102,601 cases have been confirmed, 81574 treated and discharged and 1373 deaths recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency said that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level III, is coordinating response activities nationwide.
Nigeria has so far tested 1,033,858 people since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was recorded in the country on February 27, 2020.
The Agency said the country’s active cases stand at 19,654, while only two states – Kogi and Cross River – have no active cases of COVID-19 as of Jan. 12.
