Nigeria has recorded 1867 new cases of the novel Coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 107,345.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) disclosed this via its official twitter on Friday.

The Health Agency said the new cases were reported from 24 states including the Federal Capital Territory FCT.

According to the NCDC, of the new cases, 713 were recorded in Lagos, 273 in Plateau, 199 in FCT, 117 in Kaduna and 79 in  Oyo state.

Other states with new cases include, Enugu-58 Ondo-53 Kano-49 Sokoto-43 Ogun-37 Osun-37 Nasarawa-36 Rivers-28 Benue-24 Delta-24 Niger-24 Gombe-18 Edo-15 Taraba-12 Bayelsa-10 Ekiti-9 Borno-6 Zamfara-2 Jigawa-1.

NCDC said till date, 107,345 cases have been recorded, 84,535 treated and discharged and 1,413 deaths recorded in 36 states and the FCT.

The centre said a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, was coordinating response activities nationwide.

Meanwhile, the new figure which is one of the highest recorded as the country continues to combat the second wave of the virus will breed fresh concerns as the country get set to reopen schools across the nation.

The Federal Government had earlier directed all schools to resume on January 18, 2021.

The decision was reached after a meeting with stakeholders, including Governors, Commissioners of Education, Proprietors and heads of institutions, staff unions and students.
