Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has been named the running mate to the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Peter Obi is a renowned businessman and governor of Anambra state between two thousand and six and twenty fourteen.

He was elected and served out his term as governor on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance before joining the PDP in October twenty fourteen.

A Nigerian lawyer,  Adeola Oyinlade, has won of the twenty eighteen International Bar Association’s Award for Outstanding Contribution by a Legal Practitioner to Human Rights. 

The award was presented to him at this year’s IBA Conference in Rome, Italy. 

The rights activist emerged winner ahead of other finalists from many countries across the world.

Each year, the International Bar Association  presents the award to an outstanding lawyer in the world of human rights law.

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Washington DC archbishop Donald Wuerl, who has been criticised for his handling of sexual abuse cases.

Cardinal Wuerl had offered to resign when he reached 75 in 2015, but the Pope did not take up the resignation.

 BBC reports that The Cardinal  was recently criticised in a report on sexual abuse cases when he was bishop of Pittsburgh and admitted to lapses in judgement.

The report said he had allowed accused priests to be reassigned or reinstated.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for 2019 elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has arrived Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, for a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The meeting will hold behind closed doors at the expansive residence of the ex-president within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has impeached all its Principal Officers.

All committees in the Assembly were also dissolved.

The action which was carried out by 14 out of 26 members of the Assembly, suspended the 12 other Lawmakers led by the former Speaker, Kola Oluwawole for 120 Legislative Days.

Thereafter, Ebenezer Alagbada was elected as the new Speaker, and returned a former Deputy Speaker, Segun Adewumi to back to the position.

Recall that the tenure of Gov. Ayo Fayose has less than one week to end.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has denied agreeing to a N30,000 minimum wage as claimed by the labour union. 

Minister of Labour and employment, Chris Ngige states this Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba,  on Monday said the Federal Government will soon be announcing the new figure after the tri-partite committee ended its negitiations.

Mr Fatai Oyedele popularly known as Diekola has collapsed in court. Diekola, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State together with Segun Adekilekun and Sikiru Lawal were brought to court on Wednesday after they were arrested by the police before the governorship rerun on September 27.

As reported by Punch, Diekola who has a plaster on his hand slumped after the accused persons were called into the dock.

The All Progressives Congress will not have candidates for the Governorship, National and State Assembly elections in 2019. The reason is because the party failed to meet up with the time allowed for the conduct of party primaries. 

A letter signed by the commission's acting Secretary, Okechukwu Ndeche, said the electoral time table provided that primaries be conducted between 18th of August and 7th of October. But APC failed to meet up with the time.
