More than 24 hours after the reported suicide on 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos, the Police is yet to release any information on what really happened and the identity of the victim.

In the absence of verified information from credible authority, speculations have become the order and with it, mere rumours appeared like facts.

The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 15 and Monday, June 18 as public holidays to celebrate the 2018 Id-el Fitr.

Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. M. Umar in Abuja on Monday.

He congratulated the Muslim faithful on a successful completion of the Ramadan and enjoined all Nigerians to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for the peace, unity, prosperity and stability of the nation.

A 21-year-old lady, Gift Mike, was today arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing her 48-year-old South African boyfriend, Daniel Grant. The accused, a cosmetologist, was arraigned on one count charge of murder.
According to the Prosecutor, CSP Effiong Asuquo,Gift committed the offence on May 5th at Room 201, Emerald Cove Hotel, No. 18B, Sinari Daranijo St., Victoria Island where she was lodging with the deceased. She killed him at about 1.30 a.m. on that day.

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of three Chilean bishops, including the controversial Juan Barros, following a child sex abuse scandal in Chile which has come to haunt his papacy.

The entire Chilean delegation of bishops tendered its resignation to the pope last month after a series of meetings at the Vatican.

The mass resignation of bishops is almost unheard of, having last happened two centuries ago.

Adamawa Ministry of Health has confirmed 19 new cases of cholera in Mubi North and Mubi South Local Government areas.

A statement on Monday by the Information Officer of the ministry, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, confirmed the incidents.
Abubakar said that so far, a total of 1,227 cases have been recorded within the past one month with 20 deaths, while 19 patients were still on admission at the treatment centre in Mubi General Hospital as at June 10.

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday next week, being the 12th of June,  host major stakeholders in the struggle for the revalidation of the annulled 1993 presidential election. 

At the event, the President will carry out  the post-humous investiture of the election’s perceived winner, Chief Moshood Abiola, as the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the nomination of Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria subject to Senate confirmation.

Mr. Folashodun Shonubi is currently the Managing Director of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System  Plc (NIBSS) – the financial payments, facilitation and settlement platform – which has been instrumental to the growth in electronic payments in the Nigerian financial industry.

Evans Bipi were attempting the absurd and abominable; the renegade group had launched an attack on the country's infantile democracy, shockingly with the full backing of the police command and the powers that be. The aim being to impeach the former Gov.of Rivers State who was then considered an 'enfant terrible' by Abuja.

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as the Shiite Group today held another protest in the federal capital territory, against the continued detention of their leader El-Zakzaky.

The group also said they are marching in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

They likened the reported killing of Palestinian citizens to alleged killing of Shiites in Nigeria.

After series of warnings  by security agencies and a few clashes with operatives, the group vows to continue  their protest until their leader is freed.
