A bus driver has been found hanging on a tree after the bus he drove overturned and killed eight people in Welkom in Free State, South Africa, on Monday.

Free State police said the bus was travelling to Upington from Durban when the accident occurred on Alma road. Seven people were declared dead on the scene of the accident and one died later in hospital.

Provincial Spokesman, Brig. Motantsi Makhele said three children and four females were among those who died in the crash.

A passenger was killed and seven others abducted by gunmen suspected to be cattle herders at the Okada junction on the Benin-Lagos expressway.

According to Punch, a relative of one of the victims explained that the bus, which belongs to one of the popular transport companies based in Benin, took off from Ajah in Lagos and was heading to Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, when it ran into the armed herdsmen, who had laid siege to the highway, robbing and kidnapping innocent travellers.

The Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday in Abuja said Christian Chukwu, a former captain of the old Green Eagles, has arrived in the UK for medical treatment.

Ademola Olajire, NFF’s Director of Communications, said in a statement that the former Super Eagles Chief Coach arrived in London in company of his wife, Lilian Nkeiruka.

He said Chukwu travelled with his wife aboard a Virgin Atlantic Airline flight from Lagos.

The governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states earlier scheduled for November 2 have been rescheduled for November 16 2019 by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

INEC Chairman on Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye in a statement stated that the change came after careful consideration of appeals received by the commission.

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu on Wednesday said the election of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office was a clear proof that no man, but God gives power.

Akiolu made the statement when participants of the Senior Executive Course 41 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, visited him at his palace in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the visitors, who were on a study tour of the state were led by Dr Nasirudeen Usman, NIPSS Acting Director of Studies.

The speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Acho Ihim has been suspended by 21 out of 27 lawmakers. He was immediately replaced by Chinedu Offor of the Action Alliance as the interim speaker.

Ihim’s suspension came after reading a letter announcing the lifting of the suspension placed on the 27 Local Government chairmen by the state lawmakers last week, adjourned the ongoing plenary and escaped with the mace.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says over 1.3 million candidates have so far accessed their results using the result checker (code), 55019.

The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with theNews Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos.

Benjamin was speaking against the backdrop of claims in some quarters that majority of candidates who participated in the board’s 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination had yet to access their results through the said code.

Sani Ibrahim, a 40 year old labourer was on Tuesday arrested and remanded in the Katsina prison for allegedly raping a seven year old daughter of his neighbour, Hamisu Lawali.

As reported by Punch, the police stated that the victim’s father  on May 9 reported the incident at the Bindawa Police Station few hours after Ibrahim was caught in the act. He also told the police that Ibrahim had at different times slept his daughter.

A Malaysian teenager who posted an Instagram poll asking if she should live or die took her life after a majority of respondents said yes, sparking calls for an investigation.

The unidentified 16-year-old from Kuching in Sarawak died after posting the poll on Monday on the Facebook-owned picture sharing platform.

Police have classified the case as “sudden death”.

“Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L,” she wrote, according to a report on the news portal Astro Awani, with the letters “D” and “L” apparently referring to “die” or “live” respectively.

Politicians in Anambra State have been given 17 days ultimatum by the Anambra Police Command to stop using branded vehicles or face prosecution.

According the Punch, the orders were given by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mustapha Dandaura, in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed.
