The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced the indefinite suspension of interview waivers for renewals otherwise known as Dropbox process effective May 14, 2019.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the embassy said: 

“Visa applications will no longer be accepted by DHL in Nigeria.  Those who have already submitted their passports via Dropbox to DHL for processing either at the US Embassy in Abuja or the Consulate General in Lagos, will not be impacted by this change.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has said that GSM service providers should be blamed for candidates’ inability to get the results of their 2019 UTME after texting their details to a dedicated code.

The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the examination board was already aware of the problem and had consequently summoned a meeting with the GSM service providers.

The Lagos State-owned Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere has been sealed off by policemen.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a detachment of policemen and other security officials were stationed at the entrance of the stadium, preventing people from gaining entrance into the facility.

The Lagos State Sports Commission had been engulfed in crisis following an April 23 circular directing heads of government agencies to handover by May 10.

The Army has rescued 54 persons kidnapped by Boko Haram in Borno State. They include 29 women and 25 children.

In a statement on Monday, Col. Sagir Musa, the Acting Director Army Public Relations said the victims regained their freedom after troops cleared Ma’allasuwa and Yaa-Munye villages in the state.

Musa said that the terrorists fled the troops’ onslaught and abandoned the victims. 

He also said that troops on clearance operation in Damasak general area of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno, destroyed two Boko Haram logistics vehicles and makeshift camp.

Top UN officials, including Secretary-General António Guterres, have condemned Sunday’s deadly attack on a Catholic church in Burkina Faso.

At least six people, including the priest, were killed when gunmen opened fire on worshippers at the church in the north of the country, media reports say.

The incident reportedly took place in the village of Dablo, located in a region that has seen an upsurge in violence in recent months.

Eden Hazard has told Chelsea he has made his mind up over his future but has yet to publicly announce if he will stay at Stamford Bridge after persistent speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

Following media reports last week claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari would be inaugurated on June 12, the presidency has said that the Federal Government is not considering shifting the inauguration from May 29 to June 12

According to Punch, The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made the clarification in an interview on Sunday.

He said, “There is no truth in that report. As a matter of fact, we will soon issue a statement on it to clear the air.

General Yakubu Gowon, a former military Head of State on Sunday stated that the report by the media that he slumped during the funeral of Major General David Ejoor is untrue.

The burial of Maj.Gen David Ejoor, a former Military Governor of the defunct Midwest region was held in Delta state and a media report on May 3 claimed that Gen. Gowon slumped during the funeral.

The officials of the The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has commenced the demolition of marked buildings on Freeman Street in Ita Faji area of Lagos Island two days after a three storey building collapsed on Massey street.

The building caved in on March 13, killing about 9 people including pupils of the school located at the top floor and about 50 people rescued.

Chief Salis Owolabi, the Lagos state governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) has insisted that the result of the election that produced Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the governor elect was unacceptable to him and  vowed the challenge it in court.

According to Punch, his position was contained in a statement made available on Wednesday in Lagos.

He said, “I will not and I am not accepting the result of the governorship election because it was fraud against the people of Lagos State.
