Justice Walter Onnoghen has been asked to resign his appointment as the Chief justice of Nigeria by the Coalition for Change in Nigeria insisting that the case against the justice is not about politics or ethnic persecution.

The president of the coalition, Patriot Sabo Odeh who addressed a press conference on Wednesday, urged the embattled chief Justice to vacate his office and face trial.

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has flagged off his second term campaign for the forthcoming  2019 election.

Speaking during the flag off of the state campaign rally of PDP in Tai Local Government Area of the state, yesterday, Governor Wike stated that the APC has lost the political struggle as they have attracted no value to Rivers State and expects an overwhelming victory for PDP.

He said “I hear that the APC in Rivers State are negotiating for a political party to support during the 2019 general election.  But it is already too late,”

Federal Government has ordered the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit NFIU to freeze the accounts of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen,

According to Vangurad, The directive which was contained in a memo with Ref. No. HAGF/2019/E06/Vol.01, dated January 14 and addressed to the Director of the NFIU, emanated from office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN.

The Nigerian Bar Association has be petitioned by a lawyer, Onyemaechi James to sanction Aliyu Umar (SAN) for alleged professional misconduct, following his role as the Prosecution Counsel against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

In his petition addressed to the Secretary General of NBA, James stated that Umar violated Rule Rule 15(3)(a)(b) and (c) jointly or severally of the Rules of Professional Conduct for legal practitioners.

Mr Frank Mba, an Assistant Commissioner of Police has been appointed as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police by the acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed .

Mba who studied law , hails from Ezimo In Udenu Local Government Area and was the best graduating cadet inspector in academics in 1993 at the Police Academy Kano. 

He also served as the force PRO from 2012 to 2014 under Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.

The Edo office of the Independent National Electoral commission says it has taken delivery of 4,637 ballot boxes ahead of the 2019 General Elections.

The state INEC Administrative Secretary, Mr. Richard Ntui, said this at an interactive forum with religious leaders in Benin on Tuesday.

Ntui, who briefed the religious leaders on the preparations for the general election, said more ballot boxes were being expected in the state.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has pledged his commitment in ensuring the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections. 

In a statement through his special adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, Senator Ekweremadu denied that PDP was divided ahead of the presidential election as reported.

He said, “I have held separate meetings with Peter Obi and the Chairman, South-East Governors’  Forum, Dave Umahi, with a view to working out strategies for the success of our party and our candidates in the elections.

The former military president of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babangida has stated that for the Nigerian Army to defeat Boko Haram, it has to fortify its combat strength and also develop a new strategy in the fight against insurgency.

Action Alliance (AA) governorship candidate, Uche Nwosu yesterday insisted on supporting President Muhhamadu Buhari in next month’s presidential poll.

 Nwosu reacting  to a statement credited to the National Chairman of AA  that he will expel him if he continues to support Buhari said he is ready to carry all the members of AA in Imo state to ensure Buhari wins the election.

About 50 female muslim students were locked out of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology International school in Ogbomosho Oyo state over the use of Hijab.

Reacting to the incidenrt, a teacher of the school said

“Since 2011, several letters of appeal had been written to the GC while we wait endlessly without response to our simple request. Our Muslim girls over the period have been using beret (cap) instead of Hijab, contrary to the Islamic dictate.
