A commercial bus driver, Udoka Ezeme was shot by a policeman attached to the Anambra State Police Command over N50 bribe in Isuaniocha in Awka North Local Government Area 0f the state.

According to an eye witness, Emmanuel Nwokedi who witnessed the incident that happened at about 1.30pm, the victim who was conveying passengers from Mgbakwu to Nnamdi Azikiwe University temporary site was shot after he parked by the roadside to talk with the policemen instead of parting with N50. He said the Policemen left the young man in his pool of blood, jumped into their van and drove off.

Mr Victor Edoror, the Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly has been impeached and was replaced with Mr Justin Okonobor, a former speaker.

Edoror representing Esan Central constituency was accused of corruption, high-handedness and desperation by the lawmakers.

As reported by Punch, the lawmaker representing Oredo East, Mr Osaigbovo Iyoha stated that the impeachment notice was signed by 16 out of 24 lawmakers.

The immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Monday, appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos, where he pleaded not guilty to the allegation that he misappropriated N30.8 billion.

The embattled former governor was charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. A large number of his supporters were present in court, the News Agency of Nigeriareports. 

He pleaded not guilty to the 11 charges.

At the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday October 18, at the State House Council Chambers, it was reported that the Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state were absent at the meeting.

Both governors recently defected from the All Progressive Party (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and did not send any representative to the meeting which was presided over by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani Kayode has reacted to the travel ban on 50 prominent Nigerians by the Federal Government. 

He accused government of descending into fascism and usurpation of the role of the judiciary.

Less than 12 hours after HOMELAND NEWS published an article which among other things, warned the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to brace up for release of classified documents about him, a 2010 report on the former Vice President's alleged criminal activities have been leaked. 

Several tweets are already being circulated on what is termed a damning report against Atiku Abubakar.

Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has been named the running mate to the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Peter Obi is a renowned businessman and governor of Anambra state between two thousand and six and twenty fourteen.

He was elected and served out his term as governor on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance before joining the PDP in October twenty fourteen.

A Nigerian lawyer,  Adeola Oyinlade, has won of the twenty eighteen International Bar Association’s Award for Outstanding Contribution by a Legal Practitioner to Human Rights. 

The award was presented to him at this year’s IBA Conference in Rome, Italy. 

The rights activist emerged winner ahead of other finalists from many countries across the world.

Each year, the International Bar Association  presents the award to an outstanding lawyer in the world of human rights law.

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Washington DC archbishop Donald Wuerl, who has been criticised for his handling of sexual abuse cases.

Cardinal Wuerl had offered to resign when he reached 75 in 2015, but the Pope did not take up the resignation.

 BBC reports that The Cardinal  was recently criticised in a report on sexual abuse cases when he was bishop of Pittsburgh and admitted to lapses in judgement.

The report said he had allowed accused priests to be reassigned or reinstated.
