Recent comments by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State that his party, the All Progressive Congress, APC will not seek redress in a court of law if the 2015 elections are rigged has cone under heavy criticism.

Dr. Doyen Okupe,‎ the senior special assistant to the President on public affairs while describing Gov. Amaechi as being plainly mischievous and behaving true to type like an anarchist, described the statement as treasonable.

Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC)  has joined other several groups and Nigerians in condemning what it described as the “illegal, unconstitutional and unlawful barricade of National Assembly Complex, especially the House of Representative Chamber with armed security forces, preventing  Speakers of the House entrance.

LEADERS of the  Peoples Democratic Party  in Nasarawa State have called on President Goodluck Jonathan to declare a state of emergency in the state, because of what they described as gravious level of criminality and ethnic cleansing going on there.

Speaking through the state PDD, Yunana Iliya, the leaders  lamented that the security situation in the state had worsened in recent weeks, following the alleged importation of large number of mercenaries that had embarked on widespread destruction of villages, towns and communities across the state.

The Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, on Thursday tendered an unreserved apology to the Senate President, Senator David Mark, over the unruly conduct of Hon. Abdullahi Degechi Usman Cheche, a legislator from Niger State.
Governor Aliyu said in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Israel Ebije, that the Niger State Peoples Democratic Party, government and people of the state are embarrassed by the brazen show of foolery at its highest level of buffoonery exhibited by the member.

With the rising spate of insurgence in the country, particularly as it is suspected that some of the terrorists are not Nigerians, relevant agencies have continued to weed the society of elements that do not have clear mission in any part of the country.

The Nigeria Immigration Service in Anambra State says it has arrested about 300 suspected illegal immigrants in the state.

The comptroller of immigration in the area, Darlington Chude disclosed this to newsmen in Awka

Special Assistant to the President on public affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe has urged lawmakers to use the closure of the National Assembly to deliberate on the request for the extension of the State of Emergency.

Dr. Okupe was reacting to the invasion of the National Assembly by the police today.

He described the incident as unfortunate but was silent in either condemning or justifying the police operation.

Dr. Okupe stressed that consideration of national interest should be paramount for people elected to serve the public instead of party interests.

The Nigerian Police Force has justified the invasion of its men at the National Assembly saying the force was responding to an intelligence report that there was a plot for hoodlums to take over the assemby today.

A statement signed by the force public relations officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu said the force deployed its men to the premises of the national assembly to avert what would have been a breakdown of law and order.

President of the Senate, David Mark has ordered the immediate closure of the National Assembly.

Police and other security operatives today stopped the Speaker of the House of Representatives from gaining access into the premises of the assembly. Angered by the invasion of the police, some other legislators scaled the metal gate.
Security operatives shut teargas canisters at the legislators.
