Boko Haram fighters attacked a military base in remote northeast Nigeria, setting fire to shelters for those made homeless by the conflict, military and humanitarian sources told AFP Tuesday.

The attack in Rann, some 175 kilometres (110 miles) northeast of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, began late on Monday afternoon and forced civilians to flee.

It followed a pattern by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) faction of Boko Haram that has called into question government claims the group is virtually defeated.

A tragic incident happened on Monday at Oshodi where a tipper loaded with sand lost control and drove into the traders selling by the road side.

The incident which happened in the afternoon resulted in the death of a woman that sells satchet water and her child.

According to reports, they were they only ones that died in the accident

The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Federal Government’s plan to arraign the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The Federal Government through the Code of Conduct Bureau filed six counts of non-declaration of assets against the CJN on Friday.

He was due for arraignment before the CCT on Monday but he was absent from court.

But ruling on two separate ex parte applications on Monday, Justice N.E  Maha, ordered parties to maintain status quo till January 17.

A Lagos-based Human Rights Lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, says the charges pending before the Code of Conduct Tribunal against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, are illegal.

Adegboruwa on Monday in Lagos described the entirety of the process as “unconstitutional, illegal, null and void;” adding that same ought to and should be withdrawn forthwith.

Onnoghen was arraigned on Monday, January 14 before the CCT, following six counts of allegations of failure to declare his assets.

The proceedings involving charges of non-declaration of assets against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Onnoghen has been adjourned till January 22 following the absence of the CJN at today’s proceedings.

The Danladi Umar led Code of Conduct tribunal adjourned the case on the grounds that the CJN was improperly served as he was not personally served with the charges and summons as required by law.

He therefore requested that a fresh service be directed to the CJN personally as against the previous one which was served through Justice Onnoghen’s personal assistant

 The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, failed to appear before the Danladi Umar led  tribunal over his alleged refusal to declare his assets.

The charge marked CCT/ABJ/01/19 was called up at exactly 10am with the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar demanding to know why the CJN was absent and if he was served with the charges and summons.

The court official confirmed that the CJN was served through his personal assistant, stating that the defendant directed his personal assistant to collect the charge on his behalf at his house.

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike at a thanksgiving service to mark the end of the 2019 Armed Forces day alleged that President Buhari might not hand over power if defeated in February’s presidential election.

According to Vanguard, the feeling  was informed by perceived “illegal actions of the Buhari’s administration”. He criticized the actions of the Federal Government  against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen stating that the motive is to intimidate the judiciary ahead of the elections and also targeted at the Niger Delta.

CP Kayode Egbetokun has been directed by The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to take over as the acting police commissioner for Lagos state from Imohimi Edgal who has been posted to the Explosives and Ordnance Disposal Unit at the Force headquarters, Abuja.

Kayode who was former Chief Security Officer to ex-Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos; and lectured Mathematics briefly at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos,

Egypt’s Al-Azhar university on Sunday said it had expelled a female student after she appeared in a video hugging a male colleague, accusing her of undermining the school’s reputation.

The video, which went viral earlier this month, showed a young man carrying a bouquet of flowers kneeling before a young woman and then hugging her in what appeared to be a marriage proposal.

The video was apparently not filmed at Al-Azhar — a branch of Egypt’s highest Sunni Muslim authority — but at another establishment, Mansoura University in the country’s north.

There was so much tension in Owerri, Imo State yesterday at the South East Women and Youth rally when the first lady Aisha Buhari disagreed with Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha who boasted that his son-in-law Uche Nwosu of Action Alliance, AA will win the governorship election in the state and not Senator Hope Uzodinma of APC.

According to Vanguard, The governor’s comment angered the APC leaders and women who came from the five states of the South East, forcing them to storm out of the stadium.
