The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU yesterday vowed to continue the ongoing strike by the union. 

According to Vanguard, the National president of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi said the money offered by Federal government is far from their demand which made the university lecturers to reject the offer.

He confirmed that the Federal Government had,  last Tuesday, through the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Ministry of Finance presented  to the union the evidence of  the payment of N15.4 billion to  universities.

Senator Dino Melaye was taken away around 2.15pm on Friday by masked persons suspected to be policemen from the Police clinic in Garki, Abuja. 
As reported by Punch, It was learnt that the operatives planned to take the lawmaker to Lokoja, Kogi State, for interrogation over the alleged shooting of one Sgt. Danjuma Aliu by suspected political thugs.

But following public outcry, a source said, the policemen moved the lawmaker to the Department of State Services’ medical facility along Airport Road, Abuja.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Friday warned prospective candidates to adhere strictly to the registration procedure for the 2019 UTME to avoid creating issues for themselves.

The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

NAN reports that registration of candidates for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination started nationwide on Thursday in more than 700 accredited Computer Based Test centres.

Following the receipt of a report of investigations by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) that cancelled the 2018 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) results of some schools and derecognised the schools for two years with effect from 2019 on the grounds of alleged exam malpractice,the Edo State Government has suspended 28 principals of public senior secondary schools in the state.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Thursday said the ongoing strike would not be called off until the Federal Government fully implemented all the offers it made to the union after their last meeting.

The National President, ASUU,  Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi,  in an exclusive interview with one of our correspondents in Lagos on Thursday, said the team of the union that met  with the government on Tuesday did not reach any agreement with the Federal Government.

Despite the warning issued by the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU to Obafemi Awolowo Univewrsity Ile Ife against conduction examinations, the students of the school have been reassured that the management of the school has put all machinery in motion to ensure nothing interrupts the conduct of the 20178/2018 rain semester exam.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), says it is yet to conclude consultations with its members on the possible agreement presented by the Federal Government. ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who spoke in an interview on Thursday in Abuja, said the union was still consulting.

A train heading to Ebutte Metta, Lagos from Ijoko area of Ogun State derailed at Mangoro, Agege Lagos around 7am today.

It has been reported that 3 couches were affected leaving several people injured but no life was lost.

In a statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, it was stated that the train derailed as a result of faulty 
tracks which have been earlier reported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in the area and noted for repairs.
