The Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs on Tuesday met behind closed doors to probe an alleged illegal dismissal of some management staff of the agency by the Interim Management Committee.
During the meeting, another mild drama played out after the investigative panel ordered the Executive Director, Projects of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Cairo Ojougboh to leave after he asked the Chairman of the Senate panel, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, to recuse himself , just like his counterpart in the House of Representatives did.
The panel members disagreed with Mr Ojougboh position and insisted that, he has no powers to decide the workings of the National Assembly and they would not consider the budget of the NDDC until the petitions brought by some staff of the commission are properly handled.
The height of the disagreements was when the committee ordered Mr ojougboh out of the meeting for refusing to cooperate with the investigative hearing and for also not asked by the committee to appear before it.
The NDDC has been at loggerheads with investigative panel supervising its affairs in the National Assembly, and have even accused lawmakers of corruption.
Meanwhile, the Senate ad hoc Committee on Niger Delta has also held a meeting to finish up with its investigation on the alleged misappropriation of N40bn by the Interim Management Committee between January and May this year.'
