The Supreme Court has struck a suit filed by Ali Modu Sheriff against an appeal by the Ahmed Markafi faction of the Peoples Democratic party.

The Makarfi led faction had filed an appeal challenging the judgment of the Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal which affirmed the Sheriff-led executive as the authentic leadership of the party.‎

However, Sheriff is challenging the legality of the appeal and   asked the court to disqualify the case.

But the Supreme Court panel led by Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen dismissed the suit for lack of merit.
He says the appeal of the Markafi faction must be heard.

“In this circumstance, we find merit in the appeal which is accordingly granted,” Onnoghen said
PDP, once Nigeria’s ruling party is currently facing a leadership crisis which has divided the party into two factions.
