As the story of former Vice-President Atiku Abukars defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to make the rounds, a former presidential spokesperson, Doyin Okupe who used to be a member of the PDP has warned that the party cannot hold against the APC in the 2019 presidential election.

Okupe who is the national leader of the Accord Party (AP) warned that the PDP would not defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections if they (PDP) cannot replicate what kicked them out of power in the 2015 elections that brought President Muhammadu Buhari into office.

Speaking during the election of the Ekiti state Accord Party executive in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday said,

“It took a coalition in 1998 to be able to send away the military. The coalition crystallised into PDP, won election and held it for 16 years.

“It took coalition of forces again in 2015 to be able to wrest power from the PDP and that is what Nigerians should do in 2019.”

Mr. Okupe described former Vice-President Atikus defection as an indication that the APC may crash in 2019.

He went on to describe the momentum of the AP as a sign that the party is becoming a third force in Nigerias politics since both the APC and PDP have disappointed Nigerians.
