All Progressives Congress preferred candidtate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has defeated Senator Ike Ekweremadu to emerge as the deputy Senate President.

Omo-Agege of Delta Central senatorial district had 68 votes while Ike Ekweremadu representing Enugu West senatorial district and a three-time deputy Senate President had 39 votes.

Ekweremadu was nominated by a PDP member representing Enugu North, Chukwudi Utazi and seconded by Rose Oko representing Cross River North while the APC member representing Katsina North, Ahmed Baba Kaita nominated Omo-Agege and seconded by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi of Niger North constituency.
