Two people have been reportedly killed in a raid by men of the Nigerian Customs on Oja Odan market in the Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Customs officials who were allegedly accompanied by some soldiers stormed into the Oja Odan area in a search for smuggled rice after a tip about the sale of smuggled rice in the area.

According to residents, the customs men shot sporadically into the air to scare away those who had mobilised to counter the raid. Two people were hit by bullets as the officials tried to disperse the "hoodlums" with the fired shots.

A member of the community has however called on the Comptroller General of Customs to investigate the matter as it affects the lives of ordinary people while the "big fishes" were left untouched.

Bia ndi Custom, I hope you were really out to punish the smugglers and not to take the rice for your family because Christmas is around the corner.
