Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has insisted that he is in control of his team selections.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Nigeria’s 2019  African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa, the German insisted that there is not pressure on him to select any player.

He said, “Nobody is telling me how to work, I work independently with my assistants. There is no pressure on me to field any players.

“We have good players  in this team, I have some fine players. We have good players who can play well for this country.”

“There is no pressure on me, the team is open to all good players from Nigeria.”

The game against South Africa which will played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo is the country’s first qualifier for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

The date for the match is June 10 2017.The other teams in the group are Libya and Seychelles.

The Nigerians will be hoping for a better qualifying round after missing out on the previous two editions of the AFCON (2015 and 2017).

Rohr has improved the form of the Super Eagles since he took up the job last August.

The German is undefeated in his six matches in charge of the team.

Nigerians will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the last time both teams met in a Nations Cup qualifier.

At the time, the game ended in a draw crushing Nigeria’s hopes of making the 2015 African cup of Nations.

Only the group winner qualifies for the 2019 edition.
