Spanish prosecutors have filed a formal lawsuit against Real Madrid striker, Cristiano Ronaldo for tax evasion.

According to prosecutors the Portuguese used his “business structure” to defraud the state amounts nearing £13m.

Prosecutors alleged that Ronaldo had defrauded the tax authorities of €1.4m in 2011, €1.7m in 2012, €3.2m in 2013 and €8.5m in 2014.

The lawsuit is based on a report sent to the prosecutor’s office from Spain’s tax agency AEAT,

Neither Ronaldo nor Real Madrid has agreed to comment on the matter.

The Portuguese is one of the latest high profile footballers to be charged by Spanish prosecutors for tax evasion.

Archrival, Lionel Messi and his Father Jorge Messi were sentenced last July sentenced to 21 months imprisonment for tax invasion.

However since both men have no prior criminal history and the sentence is below 2 years, they will spend no time behind bars.

The authorities allege that the two used tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.
