The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has debunked stories about the death of fans at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.

In response to multiple reports that about five people died as a result of a stampede at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo yesterday during a world cup qualifiers match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Chipolopolo of Zambia, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Elkana Bala has debunked the stories about the death of fans at the stadium.

In a text message from the Police Public Relations Officer, it was "confirmed that nobody died. But some persons were injured while struggling to gain access into the stadium. The injured persons were taken to hospital for medical attention"

Meanwhile, fans have complained about the recurring incidents of stampede at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo. According to a fan identified only as Chukwudi who claimed his girlfriend was severely injured by the security personnel manning the gate, fans are confused on "why there is always trouble in this stadium"
