 The new premier league season kicked off on Friday night with Liverpool welcoming Norwich  city to Anfield. The host started the game in their usual style, with the Liverpool front three pressing their opponent into submission and it was not long before the deadlock was broken on the night.

Grant Hanley deflected into his own net in the seventh minute before goals from MO Sala, virgil van Dijk and Origi put the Reds 4-0 up at half-time.

Teemu  pukki  grabbed a consolation for the newly promoted Canaries in the 64th minute as jurgen Kloop's men  held on to what was a comfortable night for them. Everything went well for the Reds except the loss of their goal-keeper Allison  in the first half due to what looked like a calf injury.

Having watched Liverpool win the previous night, Manchester  city knew they  had to win to avoid trailing 2 point in the early stage of the season and the responded in a spectacular manner  by putting 5 pass West ham unietd away from their home.
 
Other matches on Saturday saw Everton play out a goal-less draw with Crystal palace with Zaha coming on in the second half after his protracted move to Everton failed to materialized.

Southampton were left stunned as Ashley Barnes bounced the ball into the back of  the Southampton net  twice to lead his team to a comfortable 3-0 win, Watford loosed at home to Brighton 0-3 while AFC Bournemouth were held to a 1-1 draw on their home turf  by newly promoted Sheffield  United and the  final match of the day saw Tottenham come from behind to beat Aston villa 3 goals to 1.

The match of the opening weekend came on Sunday with Chelsea travelling to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

The  two teams came into the game  with something  to prove. Chelsea started the  better side with Tommy Abraham heating the post in the early stage of the game but it was United who took the lead in the 18th minute via a penalty after Kurt Zouma brought down  Rashford in the box and the  player picked himself up to put his side 1 goal up.

The second half  was more straight forward as Chelsea were picked apart by united well calculated counter attack.

Anthony Martial  grabbed the second goal of the match followed by Rashford second of the day while new boy Daniel James capped   his old Trafford debut with the final goal to wrap up a comfortable day for the red Devils.

In other matches play on Sunday, Arsenal overcame a resolute Newcastle united 1 nil while Leicester city and Wolves played out a goal less draw.
    
It might have been the first match of a 38 game season but the signs of City and Liverpool domination is there for everyone to see.
