The UEFA super cup is a season opener for European club  competition   as the champions league winner and the Europa league winner face off to set the tone for the new European club competition season.

This year's super cup will be contested by two English teams in Chelsea and Liverpool which is  also the first time that the super cup will be contested by two English teams.

Atletico  Madrid are the reigning  champions after beating Real Madrid at the Estonia capital city Tallin last season but no Spanish team will be in it this year for only the second time since 2008.

The match kicks off by 8am Nigerian time at the Vodafone park in Istanbul the Turkish capital city.

The 41,188-seater stadium is home to Turkish super league side Basiktas and it will be the first time the super cup is been played in Turkey.

Chelsea qualified to play for this trophy as the Europa league winner after their emphatic 4-1 victory over their London rival Arsenal in May while Mo Salah and Divock  Origi  scored in Madrid to help Liverpool win their sixth champions league trophy.

Both teams have no injury worries at the moment with the only major absentee been Liverpool goal-keeper Allison who had a calf injury during their premier league opening match against Norwich city last week Friday.

Chelsea in their part have included  defender, Rudiger, midfielder  Williams and Ngolo  Kante as part of their traveling squared.

The two sides got off  to a contrasting starts in the premier league last weekend with Liverpool trashing Norwich city 4-1 while Chelsea were emphatically beaten 4-0 by Manchester United.

History slightly favour's  Liverpool on this one but as we all know, football is a game of 90 minute.
