Serena Williams has been beaten by Cannadian teen Andreescu in the US open female final.

Andreescu defeated the six time champion 6-3 7-6 to clinch her first grand slam title.

Williams, a six-time U.S. Open champion, was seeking her 24th Grand Slam singles championship, which would have matched Margaret Court for most in the modern era.

It was the fourth loss in a Grand Slam final in the past two seasons for Williams, 37.

Andreescu, 19, became the first player to win the U.S. Open in her debut appearance since professionals were first allowed to play in 1968.
