A presidential aspirant Donald Duke, on Tuesday said that his ambition was not backed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Duke, a former governor of Cross River, who recently declared his intention to run for the exalted office, told newsmen in Lagos that though he remained close to Obasanjo, his decision to run was personal.

“I am not hypocritical. I am close the former president but he is neither my sponsor nor backup. However, those who come up with these propaganda also go to get the ex-president’s endorsement.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says people have been asking him to contest the 2019 election.

In an interview with Dele Momodu, Ovation magazine publisher, the immediate past president said he is moved to tears seeing people shouting “GEJ, we want you back”.

Jonathan, who ruled out the possibility of returning to office, said reflections on his achievements and mistakes make him sober.

“I’m not God but I sincerely doubt the possibility,” Jonathan was quoted to have said in response to a question on the next election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has  told the Senate Committee on INEC  that the commission would recruit about one million ad hoc members of staff for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

Chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmud Yakub said the ad hoc workers to be deployed for the polls, will be more than the 700,000 deployed in the last election with about 300,000.
