President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday condemned the abduction of hundreds of students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara State as inhumane and totally unacceptable and sent out a strong warning to bandits and their sponsors.

In a statement released by spokesman Garba Shehu, the President said that “this administration will not succumb to blackmail by bandits who target innocent school students in the expectations of huge ransom payments.”

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Friday remanded a 26-year-old man, Goodluck Kennedy, for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old girl (name withheld) for five days and defiling her.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Abiola Soladoye ordered that Kennedy be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Center following his not guilty plea to a two-count charge of abduction and defilement.

According to the state prosecutor, Mr Peter Owolabani, the defendant committed the offences from Nov. 8 to Nov. 15 2019 at the Gangari area of Ijora, Lagos.

Federal Government says measures are already in place to ensure the safe release of the abducted students, some staff and members of their families in Government Science College Kagara.

The Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this when he led the Federal Government delegation to the State for a first hand information of what had happened.
