The Academic Staff Union of Universities  has alleged that the Federal Government has concluded plans to hike tuition fees in Public varsities beginning from N350,000 per session.

The Ibadan Zone of ASUU, through its Zonal Coordinator, Dr Ade Adejumo told journalists that this was the position of the leader of Federal Government Team, led by Dr Wale Babalakin which the Union has resisted and asked Nigerians to join in the struggle.

Tension over another strike is now gripping University Campuses as the Academic Staff Union of Universities holds its National Executive Council meeting this week.

The NEC, which is the highest decision making body of the academic union is to review Federal government implementation of the Memorandum of Action it signed with the union before it suspended its strike a few months ago.

Both government and ASUU had agreed to an MoA which stipulated that the federal government would have implemented its agreed contents latest by October, 2017.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has lashed out at the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for allegedly acting beyond its powers by releasing admission guidelines for Nigerian Universities.

The Union stated that it is the mandate of the Senate of Nigerian universities through the autonomy to regulate admission modalities and determine what best suits the vision of each institution.

ASUU Chairman, University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole stated this while reacting to the 2016 admission guidelines recently released by JAMB.
