The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said on Wednesday the state government had conducted 263, 358 valid COVID-19 sample tests since inception of the pandemic.

Prof. Abayomi made the disclosure through his verified Twitter account @ProfAkinAbayomi, while giving the state’s COVID-19 update for Jan. 17.

The commissioner said that 285, 948 total samples were tested, out of which 263, 358 were valid.

He said that the remaining 22,590 were repeat tested samples. According to him, 41,374 of the tested samples were diagnosed positive for COVID-19.

The Enugu State Ministry of Education says all schools in the state will resume on Jan. 18, 2021.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uchenna Eze, said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu on Monday.

Prof. Eze noted that the decision was reached at a meeting between the ministry and major stakeholders in the education sector on Monday.

The commissioner said that all schools in the state have been advised to ensure full compliance with the NCDC guidelines for the containment of COVID-19 before resumption.

The Bauchi State Government on Tuesday said HIV/AIDS prevalence in the state significantly dropped from 6.8 per cent recorded in 2001 to 0.4 per cent in 2019.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Aliyu Maigoro, made the disclosure in Bauchi on Tuesday at an event to mark World AIDS Day, annually celebrated on Dec. 1 to raise awareness on the scourge and remember those who died of the condition.

Maigoro said 25,809 people were presently living with the dreaded virus across the 20 local government areas of the state.
