Professor George Obiozor, has emerged new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The 78-year-old former Nigerian Ambassador to the United State,  polled a total of 304 votes to defeat four other candidates and emerged victorious in the delegates election on Sunday.

The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has approved the appointment of Prof. Adebola Ekanola as the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the approval of the governing council was sequel to the recommendation of the institution’s Senate for the appointment of new acting vice chancellor.

Prof. Ekanola had earlier on Monday been elected at the special Senate meeting, following the directive of the National Universities Commission (NUC) as contained in its letter dated Nov. 27.

Key World Trade Organisation (WTO) ambassadors on Wednesday tapped Nigeria’s nominee, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as the best pick to lead the organization, but she was opposed by the United State of America (USA), which said it supported South Korean Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee instead.

The ‘troika’ of ambassadors heading the WTO’s three main branches determined after four months of consultations with member states that Okonjo-Iweala was the most likely to obtain the consensus needed to take the top job, WTO spokesman Keith Rockwell told reporters.
