The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned that announcing or publishing a false election result is a criminal offence,  punishable by a term of imprisonment. 

Through its twitter handle @inecnigeria, the commission said the official result will be uploaded on the commission's site as soon as they are announced by the returning officers.

INEC has denied reports which made the rounds earlier on Wednesday, saying the commission intendsm to postpond the 2019 governorship election over threats of violence.

Ina statement signed by Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, the commission said the comment made by the Chairman in a meeting of the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, was twisted out of context.

An ex-Administrative Secretary with the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr. Christian Nwosu, admitted on Thursday that he received and signed for the sum of N264.8m at a branch of Fidelity Bank in the build-up to the 2015 general elections.

He added that though he received N30m out of the N264.8m, he did not benefit personally from the money but spent it on logistics.
