Embattled acting Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei, says he is shocked people thought he was acting when he lost consciousness and fainted, at the probe being carried out by the House of Representatives. 

During the sitting of the panel on the 20th of July, Prof. Pondei struggled to explain away the N1.3bn spent by the NDDC on COVID-19 palliative. 

When his effort proved futile, he passed out and was resuscitated before being taken away by his aids and staff of the commission.

The Senate is set to investigate a fresh petition of Fraud and mismanagement of funds allegedly perpetrated by the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

This development comes after the Senate’s Adhoc Committee has concluded an earlier probe of the alleged reckless spending by the IMC amounting to N40 billion.

Senate Chief Whip, Dr Orji Kalu, said on Monday that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) had not paid contractors that handled  roads he facilitated in Abia.

Kalu stated this in a statement issued by Mr Emeka Nwala of Office of the Senate Chief Whip and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)

The former governor of Abia was reacting to claims by Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio that 60 per cent contracts awarded by the commission were handled by members of the National Assembly.
