The National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed Nigerian universities to resume academic activities on January 18, 2021.

NUC’s directive was contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Executive Secretary (Administration) of the commission, Mr Chris Maiyaki, on Friday.

The Commission explained that the instruction was given in line with the directive of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 on the resumption of schools across the country.

The Enugu State Ministry of Education says all schools in the state will resume on Jan. 18, 2021.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uchenna Eze, said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu on Monday.

Prof. Eze noted that the decision was reached at a meeting between the ministry and major stakeholders in the education sector on Monday.

The commissioner said that all schools in the state have been advised to ensure full compliance with the NCDC guidelines for the containment of COVID-19 before resumption.

Saudi Arabia will gradually resume the year-round umrah pilgrimage from October 4, the interior ministry said on Tuesday, seven months after it was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In the first stage, “6,000 citizens and residents within the kingdom will be allowed to perform the umrah per day from October 4”, the ministry said in a statement published by the official Saudi Press Agency.

Visitors from outside the kingdom will be permitted from November 1, when umrah’s capacity will be raised to 20,000 pilgrims per day, the ministry said.
