The Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has cautioned the Federal Government against planned regulation of social media, saying it could hinder freedom of speech.

He also noted that most people currently in the corridors of power don’t know the sacrifice that Nigerians made for democracy.

Bishop Kukah disclosed this on Friday while speaking at the convocation lecture of Achievers University, Owo in Ondo State.
The lecture was titled: “Some reasons why Nigeria has failed to achieve greatness”.

Sokoto State Government said on Saturday that no fewer than 210 bandits have repented since its commencement of peace dialogue with bandits in the state.

The state Commissioner for Carrier and Security Matters, retired Col. Garba Moyi, disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto.

Moyi, who is coordinating the peace dialogue, also said it has facilitated the release of all persons kidnapped by the bandits.

According to him, those freed, mostly Sokoto indigenes and some from Kebbi, Zamfara and Niger Republic, have been reunited with their families.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, has assured justice to the families of two persons allegedly killed by men of the Nigerian Airforce, at Mabera area in the metropolis.

A statement signed by Tambuwal’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Muhammad Bello, and made available to news men on Tuesday, said the governor has expressed dismay over the alleged wanton killing of the two persons.
