A 56-year-old man has been arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old daughter.
The suspect, Okpara hails from Adazi-Enu, Anaocha Local Government Area but resides in Fegge Onitsha.
The incident was reported by a neighbour who noticed that the girl was limping and during interrogation, she said;
“My father started taking advantage of me after my mother’s death in 2020. He became overly protective of me by not allowing other family members, friends and relatives to come close.
“He usually have carnal knowledge of me every night and threatened to kill me if I ever tell anyone, and that is why I have not raised alarm.”
The suspect denied the allegation, he said;
“Her limping has nothing to do with sexual abuse. My daughter started limping after falling from down from a refrigerator,”
But tests conducted on the girl at the hospital showed that she was defiled.
Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo promised to get to the root of the matter and also assured that the suspect would soon be arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate Court, Awka.
