nbc stops radio biafra

Nigerian Broadcasting Commission says it has tracked down and stopped signals of un-licensed Radio Biafra from transmitting.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Sade Yemi-Esan disclosed this to State House Correspondents in Abuja.

Dr. Yemi-Esan said that the commission is currently working with security agencies to apprehend those behind the illegal radio station.

“We also gave a report on Radio Biafra. Right now, the signals from the radio have been jammed successfully by the NBC. The commission is also working with security agencies to get those that are behind that radio because it is an illegal radio. It is not licensed by anybody to be on the airwaves in Nigeria.” Dr. Yemi-Esan said.

President Buhari has directed a clamp down on those who pirate intellectual property in the country.  The Director General said the President’s directive was emphatic that the ministry must ensure that producers of works of art must reap the fruit of their labour.

“The President raised concerns about piracy in Nollywood and he has instructed us to work harder to ensure that the producers of Nollywood films get what is due to them and that we reduce piracy to the barest minimum,” she said.

According to Dr. Yemi-Esan, the President is unsettled by the failure of some media houses to pay their workers

“Mr. President frowns on things like that, the welfare of every Nigerian, especially journalists is one of the major concerns that we have.” She said.
