enyimba beat sunshine 3-1

Nigeria’s most successful football club on the continent, Enyimba Int’l Football Club is not relenting in its effort to contend for this season’s Nigeria Professional Football League. On Wednesday, Enyimba defeated another title contender, Sunshine Stars of Akure, 3-1 in Aba.

Enyimba’s first goal was an own-goal at the 36th minute through Sunshine defender, Stephen Eze’s miskick which went beyond his goalkeeper into his own net.

Enyimba sealed the victory through goals scored by Nzube Anaezemba and Bassey on either halfs.

Sunshine, with a man down, had to wait until the 90th minute for a penalty awarded by the referee after Emmanuel Anyanwu of Enyimba fouled a Sunshine player, Ozor Chinedu in the dangerous area.

League champions, Kano Pillars ended their match with Wikki Tourist in a one all draw.

After the mid-week matches, Sunshine, Enyimba and Wikki are now tied on 33 points. Sunshine is still leading the pack on goal difference while Enyimba is in second and Wikki in third.

The only away win was recorded by Kwara United that surprised FC Ifeanyi Uba 2-1. Another surprise result was a 1-1 draw that Heartland of Owerri secured in the hands of El-Kanemi Warriors.
