The appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission has once again come under scrutiny as the PDP says it will not accept any election conducted by INEC with Mrs. Zakari as Chairman.
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh stated this in Abuja when he visited the National Democratic Institute and International Republican Institute.
PDP is claiming that the INEC acting chairman, is a daughter to the President and as such will not be unbiased in the discharge of her duty. Mr. Metuh said the appointment of Mrs. Zakari compromised the independence of the electoral umpire.
“We have INEC and the idea is that people heading it should be above board, but the present ruling party has appointed the ‘daughter’ of the President to head the position.
“I am drawing the attention of the IRI to this. Buhari has appointed his ‘daughter’ as INEC Chairman, we believe there will not be fairness.
“It will be very difficult to accept any result of the election conducted by Amina Zakari. It will be difficult for PDP to accept result of election if we loose under Zakari.” Mr. Metuh said.
Mrs. Zakari was first appointed as a National Commissioner in INEC by former President Goodluck Jonathan who is a PDP member. At the end of Prof. Attahiru Jega’s tenure in the office, the Federal Government named Mrs. Zakari as a replacement in acting capacity
