From Steph Clem, Umuahia
The governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, in the last election in Abia State, Alex Otti, has alleged threat to his life.
He said some unknown gunmen tried to assassinate him in the early hours of Friday.
He told journalists at his campaign office in Umuahia, that the incident happened in a private guest house in Maitama, Abuja where he stays.
Mr. Otti said that he had left the guest house the previous day (Thursday) before unknown gunmen invaded the place and killed one of the policemen on duty in the premises.
He said he was not suspecting anyone or group and added that the matter has been reported to the police.
The APGA flag bearer, who was the first runner-up in the last election, further claimed that there have been pockets of attempts on his life since the elections were concluded.
Mr. Otti who is challenging the election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the election petition tribunal, alleging massive malpractices during the polls, was a member of the PDP until it was clear to him that he will not secure the ticket of the party for the governorship election before joined the APGA.
His joining the party threw the structure into disarray as the state machinery of APGA in Abia state saw the involvement of the National Chairman, Victor Umeh, in getting Mr. Otti in as the candidate, in less than three months after joining, as act of imposition and a violation of the party’s constitution.
