The boundary dispute between Ishiagu community in Ebonyi State and Lokpanta in Abia State has come to the attention of the Federal House of Representatives.
The House urged the government of the respective states to quickly resolve the disputes as it has negatively affected socio-economic activities in the states.
Member of the House, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, in a motion of urgent public importance told the house that peace in the communities have been jeopardized with proliferation of small arms in the area.
“The degree of restiveness in the communities is still alarming and if no urgent action is taken to address the problem, it may escalate,’’ she said.
Ms. Onyejeocha called on the Surveyor-General of the Federation to intervene by coming up with the right specification of the boundaries of the communities.
Speaker of the House of Representatives relying on unanimous support for the motion, referred the matter to the House Committee on Special Duties yet to be constituted as one of the issue they will look into once they begin to function.
