Former member of the House of Representatives, Abike Dabiri Erewa has filed a N500m suite against Diamond Bank Plc and The punch Newspapers for character defamation.
The suit which is before a Lagos State High Court at Igbosere, is pursuant to the claim by Diamond Bank Plc that Mrs. Dabiri Erewa and a firm owed it N122m which was conspicuously published by Punch Newspapers on Tuesday, 4th of August.
Mrs. Dabiri Erewa who was a 3-term member of the House of Representatives also served in various prominent committees in the House.
She said that since this issue came up, her personality and that of her family has been brought to disrepute.
After the publication of debtors’ lists began on Monday, there have been several cases of denials. Some have stated that they never had a dealing with the banks in question while others denied being on the board of the companies said to owe the banks.
Mrs Dabiri Erewa is the first to follow-up her denial with a legal suit.
