In keeping the promise made to youths demonstrating against police brutality, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu arrived at Aso Rock and presented the five-point demands of the EndSARS protesters to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Governor also met with the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, on the protesters’ demands.
After the meeting, the governor reiterated his Govt. effort in making sure that the benefit of the protest is full realised.
He said, “Today, I met President Muhammadu Buhari to present the demands of the Lagos #EndSARS protesters. The President restated his commitment to embark on a holistic reform of the entire Police Force.
“Just today, the President has approved a panel made up of Civil Society leaders to look at all the cases of abuse by the police.
“The benefits of this genuine protest will be fully realized and I will continue to work to defend the rights of all Lagosians any and everyday
“I met with the IGP. Starting from this week, a panel will be setup comprising of citizens to look at all cases of abuse by the police around the country.
“In Lagos, we have immediately set up a trust fund that will be managed by nominated members of the public and CSOs to compensate families that have lost loved ones to police brutality. People like the wife of Mr Okechukwu Ilo who died in tragic circumstances will not be left out.”
