Nigeria’ s Labour and Employment Minister says the on going civil unrest by youths is the end result of the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU.

In his opening remarks at the resumed talks between government and the striking teachers,  Chris Ngige expresses hope that the reconcilion meeting  will produce desired fruits.

He says government is already putting the ASUU designed accounting system, UTAS, to test and will be concluded within the six months window given by the union.

ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, commended the President of the Senate and the Minister of Labour and Employment,the Accountant General of the Federation, among others for making the resumed talks possible.

He says ASUU members are ready and willing to return to the classrooms  in the interest of the nation.

The ASUU President appealed to all to look at the issues affecting the university system across the country as a national emergency.
