The Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal in Abuja says the petition filed by Peterside Dakuku, governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress challenging the election of Governor Nyesom Wike was properly filed before the tribunal.
This followed applications filed by Peoples Democratic Party urging the tribunal to dismiss Dr. Peterside’s petition for his failure to pay One hundred Naira fee for the filing of pre-hearing session application.
Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, in a short ruling in Abuja, affirmed that despite the technical arguments by the PDP counsel, the Tribunal would go ahead and hear the petition.
Meanwhile, APC last week protested INEC’s refusal to allow the party inspect materials used during the April 11 governorship election. The process turned soar when police officer attached to the headquarters of INEC used teargas to disperse the protesters.
The governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Peterside and Senator Magnus Abe were part of those teargased.
But INEC has said it could not allow the inspection due to a pending appeal by the PDP, to the ruling of the tribunal that ordered the inspection.
