Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has challenged Nigerians to appreciate PDP’s effort at nurturing democracy and keeping the country together without military interruption of the longest stretch of democratic government in the history of the country.
The medical doctor turned politician made the assertion on Tuesday while responding to questions from newsmen who accosted him after a brief meeting with Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state at the governor’s office in Ado-Ekiti.
Gov. Mimiko who described the visit as private was the South West coordinator of the Goodluck Jonathan re-election campaign in the 2015 Presidential Election.
“We must give credit to what the PDP has done for this country, people tend to forget that by 1999 when democracy came on board, not many people gave the country a chance. For 16 years, the party managed to keep the country together, to keep democracy alive, to give new meaning to elections.” Mimiko said.
On his party’s preparedness regarding the gubernatorial elections coming up later in the year in Kogi and Bayelsa States, Dr. Mimiko said he remains optimistic that PDP is going to win a free and fair election in both states.
