The National Hajj Commission says no Nigerian pilgrim is affected or identified amongst those that lost their lives during the crane collapse that occurred on Friday in the Muslim holy city of Mecca. 

Chairman of the commission, Abdullahi Mukhtar Mohammed who stated this on Saturday in Abuja said although three Nigerians were among those that sustained injuries but are receiving adequate medical care. 

Mr Mukhtar said members of the federal medical team are on ground to ensure that the safety of Nigerians is paramount for the period of their stay in the holy land. 

53,800 pilgrims have been airlifted to participate at the ongoing hajj with 12,000 expected before the seventh of September which is the closure of juddah airport.
