ekiti airport site

Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has ordered the immediate stand down of the proposed airport site clearing till December to enable owners of crops and plantations on airport site to harvest their crops.

Gov Fayose gave the order on Tuesday during an interface with the farmers at the government house ground in Ado Ekiti the state capital.

He assured them that compensation would be paid as soon as the crop enumeration of the site is completed.

When the administration came up with the clearing of the site for the airport, it was greeted with mixed reactions from the farmers that would be affected and the people of the state generally.

The death of one Akeem Tijani, a farmer whose crops had been bulldozed led to a serious stir between government workers on the site and some of the crops and plantation owners as they threatened to attack the workers with leprosy and bees if they continue with the clearing of the site without proper and satisfactorily compensation.

This development prompted the meeting between the governor and the farmland owners as they all took their turn to explain their heart desires to the governor.

At the end of the meeting the governor briefed the media on the decision reached between him and the farmland owners.
As government shifts further activities on the clearing of the airport site till December, it is the hope of the farmland owners that all conditions are met between them and government before work continues.
