The National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has unanimously appointed Anambra State Governor, Wllie Obiano as the Leader and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party to replace the former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi who decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party.
In a press statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Victor Umeh and made available to HOMELAND NEWS in Abuja he stated that pursuant to the mandate given on January 18, by the National Executive Committee to the National Working Committee to fill existing vacancies in the NWC, the NEC also appointed Alexander Amujiogu as the Acting Deputy National Secretary of the party.
The NEC also approved the guidelines for the conduct of its primaries to select candidates for the elections as was released by the National Working Committee of the party on October 21.
The statement read “at the end of the NEC meeting held on November 3, 2014, at the party’s National Secretariat Abuja, the NEC unanimously resolved as to approve and adopt the APGA Electoral Guidelines for primary elections for 2015.
It will be recalled that APGA had seen numerous defections within the past months, the last and perhaps the most painful for the party being that of former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.
A campaign to “expose” how Mr. Obi betrayed the trust of the party had been on for weeks through the Anambra State owned media outfits and on social media. But the former governor while not denying making promises not to leave the party said the premise for the promise have been violated and rendered meaningless. He alleged that the leadership of the party has derailed APGA and disconnected it from the political realities of the people.
