apc rally

Hundreds of thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress on Saturday matched through the Ikorodu road of Lagos to resound their preparedness to fight for all the elective offices as the rescheduled general elections begin in three weeks.

After the postponement of the elections from the earlier February 14 and 28 dates, campaigns were put on hold and this may signal the return of political activities leading to the polls.

As early as 6.30am, party supporters began to arrive the Mary Land overhead where the match began. By 7.30am, the crowd has become overwhelming and the procession began.

Many had come out to see the Presidential candidate of the party, General Muhammadu Buhari who just returned from a two-week trip to the United Kingdom, but were disappointed.  Also absent was the national leader of the party and former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu. The presidential running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was also no in sight.

These did not deter the party men as they sang and danced all the way.
There was an impressive presence of security operatives. Most of the bus stops had reasonable number of policemen standing at alert. The ever volatile Fadeyi area had an armored personnel carrier and officer watching over the vicinity.

Publicity secretary of the party in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe who was visibly excited with the turnout said there is no better way for the people to show that APC is still the party of choice in Lagos State.

“This is unimaginable and that is what I have been saying. APC is fully in control. As you can see, these (referring to the people) are real votes, yes, these are votes so let’s go to the polls” Joe Igbokwe said.

By the time the train got to the Barracks bus stop, about 200 meters after the popular Ojuelegba, it was impossible to see the end of the sea of heads even after the beginning of the movement has started working into the Teslim Stadium.

As at the time of filling this report, Bola Tinubu and other party leaders are being expected to join in the rally holding in the main bowl of the stadium.
