Trial of some members of Zionist Federation, a pro-Biafra group, took a twist on Wednesday as they accused the judge, in a Federal High Court, Enugu of bias and asked him to withdraw from the trial.
The suspects are standing trial on treason related charges.
Justice Dorothy Agishi had granted an application seeking a secret trial of the 11 suspects. The prosecution had previously asked the court to restrict public attendance of court sessions that involve the matter except for accredited members of the press.
Counsel to the accused, Olu Omotayo, submitted that secret trial will amount to a violation of the defendants’ fundamental human rights.
Benjamin Onwuka, leader of the group who is also a lawyer, after securing the permission of the court to speak said the judge was not ready to dispense justice; He alleged that all the rulings of the court have been bent to be against his group and accused the judge of bias
The defence counsel informed journalists that they will be sending a petition to the Chief judge of the federal high court to register their dissatisfaction with the development.
