No fewer than eight suspected political thugs have been arrested by men of the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly disrupting the flag off campaign of the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Seyi Makinde.
HOMELAND NEWS gathered that the suspects were arrested for allegedly masterminding the mayhem during which dangerous weapons were freely used and people sustained injuries.
A vehicle belonging to the African Independent Television (AIT) cameraman. Ibrahim Alli-Balogun was also vandalised by the thugs.
Also, another cameraman with TVC, Wale Ojedokun lost a Galaxy Note 3 during the mayhem.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO, Adekune Ajisebutu who confirmed the incident, said five vehicles were vandalized and one person injured.
He said the prompt intervention of the police saved the situation from further havoc.
The police image maker disclosed that the incident was still being investigated by the Iyaganku Police Area Command.
Meanwhile, the SDP has commended the people of the state for their large turn out during the rally.
Addressing newsmen in Ibadan, the director general, Seyi Makinde Campaign Organisation, Honourable Kehinde Ayoola, said it was an indication that Makinde’s candidature had been accepted.
He said the party would not allow the incident to distract it from forging with the goal of winning the February 28 governorship election in the state..
“We have talked to our people to remain calm and undaunted in the face of oppression,” he said.
