The Senate has suspended the planned move to upturn President Goodluck Jonathan’s veto on the amendment of the 1999 constitution.
The upper chamber had gone into closed session to discuss the modality to pass the controversial bill earlier rejected by the president but came out without any solution.
Addressing the plenary after the closed session, the President of the Senate, David Mark noted that lawmakers are not law barkers adding that since the matter is before the Supreme Court, it will exercise patience on the matter pending the ruling by the apex court.
To this end, with the few days to the end of this administration, it is obvious that the constitution amendment has hit the rock.
Meanwhile, both the Senate and the House of Representatives need two-third majority to override president Jonathan’s veto; a feat that may be difficult to achieve in the current national assembly .
