The Department of State Service, DSS has reportedly released former governor of Bayelsa state, Timpriye Sylva, after initially detaining him earlier in the day.
Silva, an All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain, was asked to come around for questioning by the DSS, only to be detained on allegations that he was going to disrupt the presidential campaign rally of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the state today.
The ex-governor, whom President Goodluck Jonathan seems to be waging war against in a bid to gain followership from his own state, is said to be a strong pillar of the APC and his arrest was said to have come as a rude shock to people who were aware of the arrest.
Sources close to Global Village Extra disclosed that, “I have just spoken with Doifie Ola, his media aide. He has been released and is on his way home.
“He was said to have been arrested over suspicions that he was planning to disrupt GEJ’s rally in Yenogoa today. Doifie said he was invited for questioning only for him to be arrested and detained by the DSS”.
Authoritative sources in the state also told this news medium that the PDP perceives Sylva as a threat to Jonathan winning Bayelsa.
“For Jonathan to win the state, they have been strategising to put Sylva in check and prevent him from moving around because he enjoys a massive followership, he’s like a cult figure here in Bayelsa,” the source added.
